Personal StoriesWe are always seeking personal stories and/or messages of any length - however a page or two is preferable; not too long as people find it hard to read long stories on the Internet. We know how overwhelming writing personal stories can be, so we also encourage a paragraph or two on mood disorder topics. For example, it can be a realization that you have had on the topic of medications, emotional triggers, and/or odd behaviors. This section is also open to friends and family members and their experiences. Your words help others immensely...................................................................................
Personal Stories & Messages..."Coming close to death so many times taught me how precarious life is. I learned why bipolar illness couldn't be cured just by will-power, faith, psychotherapy, or twelve-step recovery principles. Neither could it be treated successfully with medications alone. Rebuilding required using all those tools!" --Excerpt from Rebuilding Your Life Bipolar Disorder by Rev. Dr. James T. Stout "If you have a loved one with bipolar disorder or depression and don't learn as much as you can about the illness, you are going up creek without a paddle. These illnesses are complex and not easy to deal with and understand." --Anonymous "When I was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I was afraid to take medications. I asked the doctor if they would shorten my life span and the doctor said possibly yes. I started and stopped medications for many years and finally fell flat on my face realizing that I can not hide from the illness. I'd rather live a shorter and happy/productive life than a long and horrid one." --Anonymous "I think there is an epidemic of mental illness but no one wants to admit it." --Anonymous |
